Warner Bros Hopes To Bring Back Tim Burton & Michael Keaton For 'Beetlejuice 2': Report

The studio is interested in having Tim Burton and Michael Keaton on board for the sequel, although it has not been confirmed if they have signed the dotted line as yet.

The talks of making a sequel to the cult classic movie Beetlejuice has been happening for a while now. But this time Tim Burton and Michael Keaton might also be a part of the project, reported We Got This Covered.  A few months ago, it was announced by Warner Bros. studio that they have decided to take the project off the shelves and the much-awaited sequel is going to happen. Now, reports have come in and the movie may be in its early stages of development.

It was also confirmed by the news outlet that Warner Bros. is keen on having both Tim Burton and Michael Keaton on board for the sequel. It is not yet revealed if Burton and Keaton have signed the deal, but the studio is looking at having them both for the sequel, and reports suggest that they will.

Nothing much is known about the project as of now. But, what we do know is Mike Vukadinovic has penned the script, but it remains unknown if another writer is going to give additional inputs to it. Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg of KatzSmith Productions are also a part of the production of Beetlejuice 2.

There are many who believe that a sequel is unnecessary because the original Tim Burton classic should remain as is. However, Keaton believes otherwise. According to him, if they were to make a sequel, "it would need to honor the wacky spirit of the original Beetlejuice." He said, "The only way to do it is to do it right. So much of it was improvised and so much was beautifully handmade by the artist that is Tim Burton. If you can’t get close to that, you leave it alone. There are certain movies that are like Indian burial grounds. You never ride over them. Bad s— happens if you cross that. You don’t touch certain things. They are sacred."

Beetlejuice released in 1988 and holds an 84% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Over the years, it has gained a cult following. The movie was directed by Tim Burton and won the Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling and National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Actor. According to IMDb, the movie is about "The spirits of a deceased couple are harassed by an unbearable family that has moved into their home, and hire a malicious spirit to drive them out."
