It will also detect your presence via motion sensors and release unique lighting and thunders.
There is something extremely satisfying about thunderstorms and rain. Despite the apparent threatening nature of it, some people find the sound of it quite relaxing. They like to decipher each grumble as it makes its way through our atmosphere, they love the sound of rain pitter-pattering on the roof and windows, and personally, I love how the lightning illuminates the night sky. People who love thunderstorms can spend hours immersing themselves sitting next to the window and they will tell you how all their worries are forgotten when it happens.
The sound of a thunderstorm can help a lot of people sleep and keeping this idea in mind, Richard Clarkson Studio has come up with a cloud lamp that creates a thunderstorm right inside your bedroom. It sounds like an absolute dream come true, doesn't it? Clarkson, a New Zealand based designer has come up with a lamp and a speaker called The Cloud, and it replicates how we feel when a thunderstorms brews outside. The Cloud will detect your presence via motion sensors and releases unique lighting and thunders.
The device also combines the light and sound effect of an original thunderstorm and since it is designed to look like clouds, you can hang it from your ceiling and you can have your own personal piece of thunderstorm inside your bedroom. The lamp comes with full-motion sensors, microphones, and speaker system. It lets the user control the sounds and sensitivity to movements. The device is made out of hypoallergenic fiberfill, and it also comes with a nightlight setting and a music reactive mode. You can also put multiple lights on your ceiling so that it resembles a night sky perfectly.
The product description reads, "Floating Cloud, a magnetically levitating ambient lamp. The project is a collaboration between the two companies – merging the innovative levitation technology developed by Crealev with the form and function of the Cloud product of Richard Clarkson Studio. Embedded into both the base and the Cloud are magnetic components that allow the cloud to float approximately 2.75 inches (70mm) off the base. While the base itself must remain plugged in a rechargeable lithium-ion battery powers the Cloud and enables a totally wireless and unobstructed levitation while in use. With full rotational movement and slight vertical bobbing of the cloud a more realistic atmospheric experience is possible. The Floating Cloud also has the same sound reactive LED lights as our other interactive cloud products."
In an interview, Clarkson said, "The Cloud is an interactive lamp and speaker system, designed to mimic a thundercloud in both appearance and entertainment. Using motion sensors the cloud detects a user’s presence and creates a unique lightning and thunder show dictated by their movement. The system features a powerful speaker system from which the user can stream music via any Bluetooth compatible device. Using color-changing lights the cloud is able to adapt to the desired lighting color and brightness. The cloud also has alternative modes such as a nightlight and music reactive mode.”
Since the product is so unique, it is also priced quite high. The entire thunderstorm machine is priced at $3,300. We know, we know, this can be too expensive. In that case, you can go for the non-interactive clouds which are priced at $960. Sadly, at present the product is unavailable, but keep an eye out for this space as we will update it as soon as it is back on the market again.
