A 130-Year-Old Haunted House Is Now Up For Sale And It's Perfect For Horror Lovers

Called the Whispers Estate, the huge Victorian mansion is said to be one of the most haunted houses in the USA.

A Victorian mansion that dates back to the late 1890s is up for sale for a very lucrative price, but it comes with a catch. Along with the mansion, the buyer might get some permanent houseguests who are not a part of our world. Known as the Whispers Estate, it is said to be one of the most haunted houses in the USA. At first glance, you won't think there is anything wrong with the house.

Situated in Mitchell, Indiana, the house sits on a couple of blocks away from a local church and it looks like any regular home. But in reality, it is far from ordinary and has a very intense paranormal history behind it. Aptly named as Whispers Estate, once you get to know about the history of the house, it will be enough to send chills down your spine. The locals say that the walls of the home have a voice of its own.

As reported by the New Haven's Register, Heather Bland, the agent selling the house, said, "It's actually a gorgeous home. It’s in really good shape for as old as it is." The house is listed at a lucrative price of $130,000 and sits at a massive 3,700-square-foot, four-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom place and also features original wood floors throughout most of the home. According to the website created by the present homeowner, the house once acted like part home and part business property.

A doctor was rumored to have his practice downstairs and over the years, some of his patients died, including children. The doctor himself is said to have died from pneumonia in the first-floor master bedroom. Apart from this, numerous creepy stories have been heard from the local people. The house is said to be a hotspot for just about every paranormal TV show and ghost hunting groups. There have also been numerous eye-witness reports where people saw one particular child running through the house, the smell of baby powder in one of the rooms.

The haunted house has also witnessed children singing or crying, doorknobs moving on their own, and doors closing and opening of their own. People who have slept in the master bedroom, where the doctor died, have said that sometimes they have woken up to sounds of coughing and labored breathing. Bland added, "I've been in there twice and haven't felt anything so far, but you can read different things about it, and you might not feel anything or see anything for a long time, and then maybe you do."

She further added, "He had a look on his face, and I said, ‘What?’—and he said, ‘Did you see that?’ and I said no. We were measuring, and I said, ‘Did you?’ and he said ‘Yeah,’ and I was, like, 'OK, let’s get this measured then and get out of here.'” Even though the house is known to be one of the most paranormally infested places of all time, the ghosts don't seem to cause much trouble. The real estate agent said, "The owner said in his experience, if people are there and they're respectful and not trying to cause a ruckus or anything, the alleged paranormal is nice.”

The current owner of the haunted property bought the house in 2007 after attending a paranormal convention. He is now putting the property up for sale as he is engaged and moving to Indianapolis. Bland added, "We're doing a 24-hour notice before [a showing] and a pre-approval because we want to weed out people. We don't want to just have people [who say], 'let's go look at it, it'll be cool. We want people to be serious that are looking at it, and for whatever reason they want to buy it, that's their personal preference."

At present, the haunted home sits on a quarter-acre plot, that has a formal main entry, 10-foot ceilings, a living room, dining room, stone basement, and some extra space on the third floor that needs some work. All the furnishing on the house are antiques. Bland is hopeful that the perfect buyer of the house is somewhere out there. She concluded saying, "It's going to take one of two [types of] people. I think it's going to take somebody that loves this and appreciates the paranormal stuff, or if somebody just wants it to be their home. It's a huge, gorgeous home for $130,000. I mean, you couldn't build it for that.”
