The 'lockdown' remake of the cult classic has a star-studded cast and we are actually looking forward to it.
The 1987 fairy tale adventure film, The Princess Bride is truly a classic and has had a loyal cult-like following and rightly so. This is one film that cannot be touched for a reboot and that is an unspoken rule that everyone has reached a silent agreement with. But there was a recent announcement that a new version of The Princess Bride is on its way. This "remake" is at first alarming to hear about since the original is as perfect as it gets. A remake is just going to feel the wrath from the ardent fans. Or is it?
The remake is more of a parody and it is for a good cause. So after that sigh of relief, you will also be excited to hear that the project involves a long list of elite celebrities. It is also a gender swap version of the original movie. But no, it is not going to be called The Prince Groom. Sophie Turner and husband Joe Jonas will star as Westley and Princess Buttercup, respectively, reported Cosmopolitan. This is going to be a DIY project that these actors have been shooting in secret during the lockdown and is now finally ready for the world to see. It is a homemade fan version of the film that was shot on their phones.
The parody remake was directed by Jason Reitman, the filmmaker responsible for the masterpiece that was Juno. So the expectations are running high. Reitman will be the one stringing together the iPhone footage that we will all be able to see on Quibi starting today, June 29. The OTT streaming platform was launched earlier in April and The Princess Bride parody will be released in chapters every day for the next two weeks, according to Elle, and we are ready for it. The project is even raising money for the World Central Kitchen and Quibi has made a generous donation of $1 million. The charity has been helping thousands of restaurants stay afloat during the quarantine. It has been paying them to provide millions of meals to those in need.

"The week that the stay-at-home order came through in California, I just woke up one of the first mornings, I think like most people did, feeling as though, All right, I need to be able to do something of value," Reitman told Vanity Fair. "I just thought, Can we remake an entire movie at home? And I had seen that a fan-made Star Wars had been done. I just started reaching out to actors I knew, saying, ‘Is this something you’d want to do?’ And the response was kind of immediate and fast. It was like, ‘Oh—that sounds like fun.’" The creators are hoping their "scrappy" version of the film will help provide some laughter to viewers during these uncertain and hard times.
This *is* a kissing story. @JoshGad as the boy, @RobReiner as the grandfather, @TiffanyHaddish as Buttercup, and @Common as Westley.— VANITY FAIR (@VanityFair) June 26, 2020
