'Haunting Of Hill House' Season 2 Is Scarier Than The Original, Says Mike Flanagan

"I already think it’s much scarier than season one, so I’m very excited about it. We’re looking at all the ghost stories of Henry James as the jumping-off point for the season, so it very much is a whole new deal," Flanagan said.

The Haunting of Hill House was one of the most unnerving and unsettling shows released by Netflix in 2018. Based on Shirley Jackson's novel of the same name, this show kept a lot of us awake at night. If that was the case, then you better brace yourself for what is coming your way in the second season. Because director Mike Flanagan says the second season of the horror anthology series, titled The Haunting of Bly Manor, is even more terrifying. The first season followed the story of the Crain family, who were estranged, but come together in the wake of a tragedy. Now, they have to confront the terrifying memories of their old home that plagues them even now.

Before the novel was adapted as a show, it was previously adapted as movies in 1963 and 1999, both titled The Haunting. Even though the movies did not see much success, the recent anthology series by Flanagan saw a landslide of positive critical response and insurmountable success. The master of horror, Stephen King himself called the show 'a work of genius' and it has a 92% Rotten Tomatoes rating.

In an interview with Birth. Death. Movie. Flanagan let the fans know a few details and insights of his highly anticipated horror anthology and made us even more eager for the second season. He said, "For Henry James fans, it’s going to be pretty wild, and for people who aren’t familiar with his work, it’s going to be unbelievably scary. I already think it’s much scarier than season one, so I’m very excited about it. We’re looking at all the ghost stories of Henry James as the jumping-off point for the season, so it very much is a whole new deal. It’s a cool way to expand on some of the things I loved about season one, but within the framework of new story, without having to be restrained by the decisions we made last time.”

The second season is based on Henry's horror novella The Turn of the Screw. In case you haven't read the books, this gothic novel tells the story of two orphaned kids and a governess who live in a supposedly haunted mansion. Although the story will be different and will have no connection with the first season, the Crain family will be back, but they will be playing different characters.

Victoria Pedretti, who played the character of Nell, is all set to scare people once again and has officially joined the star cast of The Haunting of Bly Manor. Oliver Jackson-Cohen aka Luke Crain is also back and he will be playing the character of Peter in Bly Manor, reports The Wrap. Carla Gugino, who played the character of Olivia Crain, has also joined the cast for season 2. In another report by Netflix Life, season 2 has finished filming and if it follows the same timeline as season 1, then fans can expect to see the show sometime around October 2020.

The Haunting of Hill House was such a massive success that not only the streaming giant renewed the show for a second season, but they even asked Flanagan to keep making content. In an interview with Comicbook, Cindy Holland, vice president, Original Content at Netflix said, "Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy are masterful at creating authentically frightening stories that leave audiences on the edge of their seats but unable to look away. We’re excited to continue our partnership with them on ‘The Haunting’ series and future projects to come."
