Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical Is Happening This Holiday Season

After breaking all records at the box office for two consecutive years, the Grinch musical will be coming to The Lowry this Christmas.

The cast of the much-anticipated Grinch musical that is coming to The Lowry this festive holiday has been announced and we cannot keep calm. According to reports, the Salford Quays theatre will be the first-ever UK venue to host this show which has been ruling the box office for two consecutive years on Broadway.

Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical will see a few comedy legends working their magic for Christmas. 



According to the Manchester Evening News, Griff Rhys Jones has been confirmed to assume the role of Old Max, while X-Factor winner,  Matt Terry, will be cast as Young Max.

As for the role of the world-famous festive mischief-maker, The Grinch, Edward Baker-Duly has been chosen. Now, the sketch comedy specialist, Griff, who is famous for his work on BBC, and Not The Nine O'Clock News and Smith and Jones, will be heading the team as the narrator. 


During an interview, he said, "I am so excited to be joining the cast of How The Grinch Stole Christmas. It's thrilling to be part of its UK premiere at The Lowry. It's got me looking forward to Christmas already!"

Now, Matt Terry won over the hearts of the Manchester audience with his starring role of Alex the lion in Dreamwork’s Madagascar The Musical, last year at The Palace Theatre. 


Baker-Duly, who's appearing as the Grinch, has had quite an experience in theatre, films, and television. His stage credits include Gone with the Wind at New London Theatre, and The King and I and Wizard of Oz at the London Palladium. He was also seen in popular television shows including, Downton Abbey, Yes Prime Minister, and Emmerdale. 


The Grinch Musical will begin on Tuesday, December 10 and run throughout the new year, until Sunday, January 5, 2020, at The Lowry. Hit songs like You’re A Mean One Mr Grinch, and Welcome Christmas will feature in the due of the musical as Max the Dog continues narrating how the cunning and scheming Grinch decided to steal Christmas away from holiday loving, Whos. 


Karen Ascoe will be playing the role of Grandma Who and David Bardsley, Grandpa Who. In addition to this, Alan Pearson will be Papa Who and Holly Dale Spencer, Mama.

According to the Lowry website, the other actors in this musical are, " Nicola Barney as Annie Who; Nina Bell as Betty Lou; Lydia Bradd as Bugsy; Ana Cardoso as Scallops; Elena Christie as Phillis; Sophie Leigh-Griffin as Gymslip; Lawrence Guntert as Sporty; Zoe Humphryes as Danny Who; Monifa James as Reno; Sarah-Marie Maxwell as Trixie; Craig Nash as Palm Springs; Jessica Pardoe as Auntie Who; Andrew Pepper as Buzz; Lucy May Pollard as Punky, Calum Train as Timey, Ellen Whitehead as Boo Who."


They claim that the "Magnificent sets and costumes inspired by Dr. Seuss’ original illustrations help transport audiences to the whimsical world of Whoville, breathing life into this timeless story and conjuring the true meaning of Christmas."
