They announced that they are working on a new album. This is the first ever Christmas album since the band's formation in 1993.
The Backstreet Boys are all set to make a comeback this year. The band is working on a new album together and what better time to have dropped an album than Christmas? The evergreen boy band was formed in 1993 and have never released a Christmas album till date. The '90s boy band — comprised Kevin Richardson, Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, A.J. McLean, and Brian Littrell — announced the news during an event on the April 8 while promoting the GRAMMY Museum's Backstreet Boys: The Experience exhibit in Los Angeles. The event was a one-of-a-kind ultimate fan exhibition that allowed the fans to see the band's mementos including their childhood photos, wardrobe, awards, music videos and a lot more. When they dropped the news about working on a new album, the fans went crazy on social media. It's like the Christmas present all the fans have always been waiting for.
"We've done a song or two, but we have never done a Christmas album," Kevin revealed during a more than one-hour Q&A with KIIS-FM’s JoJo Wright at the event, according to ET. "We're going to be doing a full-length Christmas album, some classics, and some originals. We are working on that while on the DNA World Tour." The band might not have released an entire Christmas album before but they have dropped a few holiday-themed songs like It's Christmas in 1996 and later in 2012 they dropped It's Christmas Time Again.
Did you know? The @backstreetboys handpicked all the memorabilia inside the new exhibit themselves! From music video outfits to high school diplomas and home videos...each member of the band helped us make #BSBTheExperience a must see exhibit!— GRAMMY Museum (@GRAMMYMuseum) April 11, 2019

Later this month the band will be wrapping up their Las Vegas Residency Backstreet Boys: Larger Than Life. Next month, the band is scheduled to go on the DNA World Tour which will start in Lisbon, Portugal and finally come to an end in Newark, New Jersey, on September 15. Their tour around the globe is in support of their new album DNA which was released in January earlier this year. The album became the first No. 1 record in almost two decades. Black And Blue was their last album that topped the charts in 2000.
The world tour next month is almost like a family trip as Brian's 16-year-old son Baylee Littrell will be opening for the band while they travel across North America. Brian's son is said to be trying out a career in country music. "He didn't have to audition. He's got a little connection," Brian joked to ET, whilst Kevin added, "We know that he's got the goods. So he don't have to audition for his uncles." According to PEOPLE, Baylee has always wanted to follow his father's footsteps. He surely has all the right guidance around him.
Baylee said, "Since I was 6 years old, my dream has always been to go on tour. I wanted to do what my dad did. One of their shows — I think it was the tour after their album This Is Us from 2009 — they went out on the road and I remember right before they went on, I put on one of my dad’s jackets from one of his outfits in his dressing room and I stood in front of the mirror. He comes in and is like, 'Hey Bubs, what are you doing?'and I’m like, 'Well I want to be like you.' I asked, 'Can I get up there instead one day?' He was like, 'Well, you never know.' And now the opportunity to open for him and the guys is like that 6-year-old self-standing in front of that mirror in his dressing room with his jacket on. It’s a dream come true."
The band seems to be having a very eventful year that has gone as well (and hopefully continues to). The band topped the charts with their album, have two tours, had a very nostalgic event for the fans (and themselves) and now they are working on a holiday-themed album. All they need to make this a golden year for them is to make sure their Christmas album tops the charts as well.
Naturally, the fans are understandably excited about the upcoming album. Here are some of their reactions:
