Our favorite kooky family is making a comeback and we are beyond excited.
The Addams Family is no doubt our favorite kooky family on screen and no matter how weird they are, we absolutely love every single one of them. The animated version of The Addams Family released last year and The Addams Family 2 is already on its way to treat us with some kooky hijinks on screen. Just a day later after the 2019 Addams Family movie released, MGM announced their plans to make a sequel. Now, it has been reported by Cinemablend that a release date for the sequel has been set for October 22, 2021, and there are no major entries set for that date yet.
The 2019 movie released on October 11 and the movie earned a staggering $35 million for four days. The movie especially benefitted because of Columbus day and it earned $4.8 million alone. Yes, it is not a record-breaking or a record-setting number by any means, but it gave the franchise a strong enough momentum to continue the franchise, reported Deadline. The Addams Family also beat out the heavily-touted Gemini Man movie that made $10 million less than the animated movie during its first weekend, which drew most of the audience from the 60s sitcom and the 90s movies.
The animated Addams Family movie had an incredible cast. Charlize Theron and Oscar Isaac played the role of Morticia and Gomez Addams, while Wednesday and Pugsley were played by Chloe Grace Moretz and Finn Wolfhard. Uncle Fester was played by Nick Kroll and legendary Snoop Dogg played the role of IT and Bette Midler played the role of Grandma. After more than two decades, The Addams Family came back on the screen. It was directed by Greg Tiernan and Conrad Vernon, who previously worked on the R-rated animated comedy Sausage Party.
This is the first time the movie has been adapted into an animated version and stuck close to the source material of the New Yorker cartoons that were created by Charles Addams in 1930. After MGM acquired the rights to the property, they were really excited to turn the franchise into animation, reported Deadline. Upon its release, the movie received a decent response from the audience. It holds a 70% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a B+ Cinemascore. But the critics were not so impressed by the movie. They gave an overall 39% and didn't have too many positive things to say about it.
The Addams Family is primarily a satire that is aimed to mock the so-called perfect American life. By showing how the Addams' are unaffected that people find them macabre and bizarre, they continue living their lives in peace. In a conversation with Comicbook, director Vernon said, "Greg and I have always been a fan of The Addams Family in past versions, so when we set out to make this movie, we were excited to do something new."
He continued, "With that in mind, I drew from the brilliantly original Charles Addams New Yorker cartoons for the look of the film and decided to tell the story of how Gomez and Morticia meet, find their house and start their family. This unique approach is what drew me in to direct the film." The reimagining also extends to the stellar cast we’ve put together who will each bring their own spin to our film that will appeal to longtime fans of the Addams and introduce them to a new generation
