The first trailer of the Shameless' tenth season has Ian Gallagher and Mickey Milkovich reunite in prison.
The Showtime dramedy Shameless is coming back for the tenth season, and we couldn't be more excited! The show centers around the antics of the rowdy Gallagher family from Chicago. And this season, Cameron Monaghan is back as Ian Gallagher after an exit from the show in season 8.
Noel Fisher also returns this season as Mickey Milkovich, Ian's boyfriend - and now cellmate. Season 9 ended with the de facto family matriarch, Fiona, (played by Emmy Rossum) leaving Chicago, and season 10 will show how the family deals with her departure. And of course, we'll see Ian and Mickey reunite in prison. According to Entertainment Weekly, Monaghan had one condition for returning to the show: the plot needed to further explore his relationship with Mickey.
“That was something that felt worth going back to,” Monaghan told the publication. “There’s still a lot of story to tell. We’ve never really had these characters just together in a somewhat stable environment for very long, so that’s been fun to explore.” According to Entertainment Weekly, when we revisit this relationship in season 10, the honeymoon period is definitely over. “It turns out that living in cramped quarters without much break from one another is not necessarily all that conducive to a healthy relationship,” Fisher revealed. “It’s basically living together in the worst studio apartment you can possibly imagine.” Monaghan added, “Like any romantic relationship, you need a healthy level of distance and separation, and that’s something not afforded to them. They’re in a challenging place and trying to work through their issues. Now, the way that people work through their issues on Shameless tends to be pretty volatile. I won’t exactly say how they work on solving them, but I will say it involves shivs and stabbings.”
What else can we expect from the new season? According to Deadline, a Showtime press release revealed a few plotlines slated for the upcoming season. The show picks up six months after last season's finale. Frank (William H. Macy, who's received 5 Emmy nominations for his role) uses his leg injury to collect as many prescription drugs as possible and his exploits lead him to an old friend. Debbie (played by Emma Kenney), has stepped in as the new matriarch of the Gallagher household. Lip (Jeremy Allen White) navigates his relationship with his girlfriend, Tami (Kate Miner), and prepares to be a father as Tami is pregnant. Carl (Ethan Cutkosky) has to decide what to do with his life as he finishes military school and heads back to the Southside.
Shameless season 10 is set to begin on Showtime on November 3, 2019.
