Social media appears to have found a successor to Grumpy Cat less than a month after the internet sensation passed away.
It’s been less than a month since Grumpy Cat passed away but the internet has already found its next grumpy cat. The original Grumpy Cat that went by the name Tardar Sauce hailed from Arizona and was an internet sensation and a legendary meme. Louis, a 6-year-old Persian cat from Austin, Texas has been christened the new Grumpy Cat by people on social media, according to Metro. Louis though is more angry than grumpy.
Similar to Grumpy Cat, Louis has a face structure that suggests he’s permanently angry. Louis gained traction as people found the Instagram account dedicated to Louis and his companion cat Monae, who is a Lynx Point Siamese. Louis has a long way to go before reaching the levels of Grumpy Cat but social media might anoint him to fill the grumpy cat void. Louis’ Instagram account has seen a sharp rise in its social media follower count and has touched 4,900 followers in a short span but still has a long way to reach Grumpy Cat’s 3 million followers.
It was only last month that Grumpy Cat’s Twitter account posted a message, with the caption, “Some days are grumpier than others,” confirming that Tardar Sauce was no more. Grumpy Cat became an internet sensation when his caretaker posted a picture of the cat on Reddit. People shared pictures of the cat, with parodies and memes in no time. In under 48 hours, Grumpy Cat had established himself as an internet legend.
Louis caretaker, Michelle recently said, “Louis is a full breed Persian but people often ask if he has a genetic disorder because they think his facial features are an exception, but he is completely normal.”
She said that even though his expression was primarily angry he is very playful and a happy, loving cat and. “People love his big ‘marble eyes’ that he squints often. Louis is now referred to as the ‘new Grumpy Cat’, but he is actually very sweet, happy and playful. He loves to snuggle and give head rubs, he will chase lasers and play with toys,” insists Louis. Even Grumpy Cat’s caretaker stated that he was actually a very happy cat.
Michelle said Louis was a real softie was bullied and pushed around by a much smaller Monae, “When we got Monae she was a baby and Louis was a full grown cat, and yet she bullied him for two months straight. She even tackles and picks at him, but really she loves him.”
Grumpy Cat went on to become a marketing phenomenon nabbing commercials and had its own T-shirts, plush toys, stickers, paper doll sets, greeting cards, comic books, and video game apps. Grumpy cat even enabled her caretaker Tabatha Bundesen to quit her job as a Red Lobster waitress, as per a report of Hollywood Reporter. It remains to be seen if Louis will also become a marketing legend but as of now, it doesn’t look like his family has any such plans.
