As if Evan confirming his departure wasn't heartbreaking enough, another AHS favorite who has appeared in all 8 seasons so far won't be seen in the next one.
Just when fans were coming to terms with the fact that they won't be seeing one of their favorite actors Evan Peters in the show, we have now learned that Sarah Paulson, the soul of American Horror Story, is not returning either. Both the actors have delivered powerful performances in all eight seasons so far and this will be the first time we won't be seeing their faces in the show.
The upcoming season - American Horror Story: 1984 has a slasher theme and will pay homage to '80s horror icons but is the theme big enough to engage the viewers without Paulson and Peters?
Sarah previously revealed in an interview that she has no idea if she'd be back or not and it gave fans a spark of hope. "I don't really know the answer to that. I think... all I can say is I know the least about this season upcoming that I've known about any season. I don't even know...yeah, that's all I can say. Usually, I have more information at this point, and I'm bugging Ryan with questions. Right now, I don't have a lot and yeah, I'm so busy with Ratched, it's hard for me to think about anything beyond that," she told SYFY.
Paulson has expressed her wish to work with Murphy on multiple occasions, calling AHS her 'home' and we have been wondering what went wrong?
"I have found a home in the sense that I work for a person who sees me completely, knows my strengths and weaknesses, knows how to push me and keeps throwing me the ball," Paulson spoke about continuing to work with Murphy. "Why would you leave something that works?"
According to Variety, Sarah Paulson won't still be returning for the slasher season but she might do a cameo or play a brief role in this season as she did in Murder House.
Sarah is currently working on two other big Murphy projects - Ratched for Netflix and Mrs. America for FX and maybe she didn't have enough time to return for American Horror Story, even though she wanted to.
Peters, on the hand, decided to sit this one out for totally different reasons. In an interview with GQ, Peters said that he wasn't feeling up to doing another American Horror Story season as it is messing up his mental health.
"Yeah, I'm not doing it anymore. I just made a decision. I said to myself, "I can't do it anymore." It's not me. It's not who I am! I'm goofy, I'm silly, I like to have fun. I don't like to yell and scream. I actually hate it."
"I think it's disgusting and really awful, and it's been a challenge for me. Horror Story sort of demanded that of me...It's hurting my soul and Evan as a person. There's this massive amount of rage that's been called upon from me, and the emotional stuff that's been called on me for Pose has been heartbreaking, and I'm sick. I don't feel good," Peters added revealing how much the show is impacting him in real life.
And since the upcoming season is going to be too scary, it makes sense why Evan decided to sit this one out. Tim Minear, the show's producer, has opened up about season 9 and spilled some details about the plot.
“I will tell you nothing, except that I think it’s awesome,” Minear told TheWrap. “I think it’s gonna be really scary but a lot of fun, like it always is. And that if you have a taste for ’80s horror, you’re in for a treat.”
Scheduled to air this September 18th (which is not that far), Ryan Murphy has STILL not announced the cast of the show. The shooting is underway and all we know for sure is Emma Roberts is a part of it and famous American-British freestyle skier Gus Kenworthy will play her on-screen boyfriend, which is cool but what about the others? Kathy Bates? Angela Bassett? Lily Rabe? Lady Gaga? Ryan is giving us no details and it is UNFAIR! Will you be watching season 9 regardless of the choice of cast? Let us know!
