Her family took to Facebook to announce her death, which read: "She's gone." On Tuesday, the veteran actress was taken off life support one year after suffering a severe stroke. “None of it was helping, but making her only more uncomfortable. We’re telling her it’s okay to let go,” Josh and Jasmine noted on the Facebook page they had created to give fans update on Nickerson’s health. The family had braced themselves for her death the day she was taken off life support.

Her condition had earlier deteriorated on Monday when she was rushed into ER after suffering a “major medical emergency” and eventually the ICU. Jasmine wrote: “She’s had seizures this morning and is in pulmonary and respiratory distress. The doctors have found that she aspirated and has developed pneumonia. They have upped her oxygen. She’s under a DNR order so they aren’t putting her on a ventilator or feeding tube.” Jasmine also mentioned that Denise was in a “coma-like state,” and that Josh was “not okay at all.”

The family has been seeking donations to cover for her funeral costs. The couple has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover burial and healthcare costs.

According to the donation page, it read:  “We cannot afford to pay for death expenses. Although she had the fame and notoriety, there is no inheritance. No life insurance. No end of life nest egg. Just our income which isn’t even enough. And Denise’s wish is to be cremated and her ashes made into a piece of glass art. We will need to urgently pay for these things as well as need help with our home expenses. Rent, bills, groceries. Jasmine is not working due to her caring for Denise and trying to apply for jobs while home sick and pregnant, and Josh is missing work from both jobs to be here in the hospital.”

Although her career was short-lived in Hollywood, she made a remarkable mark in all the movies she had acted in. She had also appeared in the TV series called The Electric Company, playing the character of Allison, and in an episode of The Brady Bunch in 1974. She had called it quits from Hollywood in 1978 and decided to become a full-time nurse.
