It's Official: 'Ozark' Season 3 Is Coming To Netflix This March

An announcement video released earlier this month foreshadows whats in store for the show's characters in the upcoming season.

Netflix’s hit dark drama Ozark is set to premiere its highly-anticipated third season shortly. The streaming service announced earlier this month that Jason Bateman and Laura Linney‘s Emmy-winning drama will make its grand return to the platform with a 10-episode third season on March 27. According to Deadline, the upcoming installment picks six months after where the season 2 finalé left the Byrdes family. An announcement video released earlier this month foreshadows whats in store for the show's characters in the wake of Marty (Bateman) buying a riverboat casino. "They are all in," reads a message on the screen as ominous music sets the tone of the season.

According to Entertainment Weekly, season 2 of Ozark ended with the Byrdes family buying the casino to continue their criminal activities. The synopsis of the upcoming season reads, "It’s six months later, the casino is up and running, but Marty and Wendy are fighting for control of the family’s destiny.  Marty preaches keeping the status quo. Aided by an alliance with Helen and drug cartel leader Omar Navarro, Wendy plots for expansion. But when Wendy’s brother Ben comes into town, everyone’s lives are thrown into chaos."

With a cast that also includes the likes of Julia Garner, Sofia Hublitz, Skylar Gaertner, Charlie Tahan, Lisa Emery, and Jessica Frances Dukes, Ozark won big at the 2019 Emmys when Bateman won for his work as the show's director. Meanwhile, Garner bagged the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series award for her portrayal of Marty's feisty apprentice Ruth Langmore. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about her character, the actress said, "From the outside, the first word that comes to mind is tough. But she’s really just fragile and hoping for something better. I think that’s always interesting to play because to have hope is such an important quality."

Created by Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams, Ozark follows the story of a Chicago financial planner who relocates his family to the Missouri vacation destination. However, wanting to spend more time with his family isn't the driving factor behind the move. Rather, Marty uproots his family to this particular location to launder millions of dollars for a dangerous drug lord, Del, who is played by Esai Morales. Despite being in-over-his-head and having FBI's eye on him, the resourceful Marty taps into the local underground and joins precarious forces with the ferocious Ruth. Somewhere along the way, his wife Wendy—a sharp political PR consultant—also gets pulled into the dangerous con that gives way to a number of power shifts, betrayals, and murders.
