Four years after the sequel, it looks like the four horsemen will rise once again as 'Now You See Me 3' is officially in the works.
Louis Leterrier's Now You See Me in 2013 and Jon M. Chu's Now You See Me 2 in 2016 turned out to be massive hits. Both the movies had a stellar star cast and were made on a low budget, compared to most blockbusters. Both the movies managed to earn a staggering $300 million worldwide and because of the insurmountable success, many people were wondering what is the hold up with a third movie and why it was taking so long.
Luckily for the fans, they don't have to wait any longer as four years later, a third Now You See Me movie has been confirmed by Lionsgate, reported Screen Rant. The movie is centered around magicians who call themselves four horsemen. The first two installments had big names from the industry like Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Isla Fisher, Michael Caine, Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman, Dave Franco, and Daniel Radcliffe. Now, as reported by Deadline, we are hearing that Top Gun: Maverick co-writer Eric Warren Singer has joined the team to plan yet another epic heist.
Now You See Me 3 has been in development since 2015. In 2016, it was reported that the movie's director John Chu was back on board, with writers Neil Widener and Gavin James writing the script. But since then, there has been barely any news about the third film. This comes as a surprise for a lot of us, especially considering the first two movies fared well for Lionsgate. But as the saying goes, it's never too late and the fans after a long wait will get to see The Four Horsemen in the act once again.
Lionsgate chiefs Nathan Kahane and Erin Westerman said, "Eric has always been fascinated with the fine art of deception and illusion in all of its forms and he came to us with a great story that takes the mythology of Now You See Me and pushes The Four Horsemen to a whole new level with our key returning cast and new characters. The Now You See Me franchise has been built on keeping the audience surprised and guessing. Any great magician knows you can't keep doing the same tricks. And Eric and his team of illusionists have something special up their sleeve for this new film."
Even though there are instances where movie franchises have released sequels without any long gaps, there are a lot of examples for a long wait between a sequel and third film. The best example here is the Guardians of the Galaxy. The first and the second movie released within three years, but it seems like the third movie still is in the works.
No director for the third installment has been assigned as of now, but Now You See Me 3 has promised its audience to deliver something magical with Eric, who was nominated for the Academy Award for his work with David O Russell on American Hustle. We don't know if the entire cast is making a return for the third movie but keep an eye out for this space as we will update as soon as something official is announced.
