Yes, Nickelodeon has unveiled the first look of the iconic TV show and fans can't wait to see what's in store for them. Although the teaser is only 15 seconds long, it was more than enough for us to get hit by the wave of 90s nostalgia.
A new group of Midnight Society kids is back for the limited series revival of the popular horror-fantasy anthology series and they are all ready to tell the scary story of Carnival of Doom (Rafael Casal plays carnival’s ringmaster). And as fate would have it, the events of the tale soon begin coming to life. Do they survive? Well, you will have to wait this October and watch the three hourlong episodes.
“Are You Afraid of The Dark? was my introduction to the horror genre and made me a fan for life,” series writer Bendavid Grabinski told Entertainment Weekly. “I hope we’re lucky enough to have our series do the same. It’s going to be a fun and scary ride, and I’m honored to introduce the Midnight Society to a whole new generation of kids.”
The miniseries stars Jeremy Taylor, Sam Ashe Arnold, Tamara Smart, Lyliana Wray, and Miya Cech as the members of The Midnight Society. Meanwhile, Blindspotting star Rafael Casal will be essaying the role of carnival ringmaster, Mr. Tophat. Although the original series was an anthology, the upcoming miniseries will be about "The Carnival of Doom".

The original TV series, which debuted in 1990, was all about teenagers trying to scare each other, sitting around a campfire in the woods! Calling themselves as the Midnight Society, the show gave young Nickelodeon viewers creepy stories, yet with tamer subject matter. Although some of the stories were hilarious, most of the time, it got a bit too scary, especially considering the fact that it is a kids' show!
"Are You Afraid of the Dark?" series is written by Gary Dauberman and BenDavid Grabinski. “That show is so important to me. I didn’t want to age it down too much because for it’s time, it had some really disturbing episodes and some really dark episodes. Not every story the Midnight Society told ended with happily ever after or a person learning their lesson and it will never happen again," Dauberman had earlier told SlashFilm.
"I really embraced that side of things and I think it’s been a long time. I think fear is healthy for kids. I don’t think we have to always sand down the edges of things and that’s something I really wanted to do with Are You Afraid of the Dark? I think it is scary and I think kids will be scared watching it at times, and also they’ll laugh at times. I think it’s got a great message. I think it’s got a great heart to it but it is still scary. I think that’s great. I think it’s going to open it up to a wider audience,” he concluded.
