Netflix has unveiled the first official trailer of the highly anticipated prequel and it looks absolutely magical!
The wait is finally over for diehard fans of Jim Henson. The TV series we all have been waiting for has finally released an official trailer and it looks incredibly magical! Better than we thought it would be, and to be honest, the fans are thrilled. Netflix didn't disappoint!
The puppets, the theme, the music, everything is on POINT and we can't wait for the series to finally arrive. The 2-minute teaser takes us on a joy ride of the wonders that The Henson Company created in 1982. "The journey begins as darkness rises. Join three Gelfling heroes on an epic quest to save their world," Netflix captioned the video. Are you ready for an all new dark adventure?
The prequel TV show will be 10 episodes long and will explore the universe of Dark Crystal. Plus, instead of modifying the show for the new audience, the studio has stuck to the basics and The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is all old school puppetry and no CGI.
Netflix released some snaps from the show to convince the fans before that it is going to be good but now that we have a full-fledged trailer, even the ones who were skeptical about it are on board.
And, the cherry on the cake is the fact that the voice cast of the show is unbelievably good! Taron Egerton from Kingsman, Anya Taylor Joy from the Witch and Split, and Nathalie Emmanuel from Game Of Thrones will be voicing for Rian, Brea, and Deet, the three Gelfing heroes. Woah? It gets better. Caitriona Balfe, Helena Bonham-Carter, Harris Dickinson, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Theo James from the Divergent Series, Toby Jones, Shazad Latif from Star Trek, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mark Strong from Kingsman and Alicia Vikander of Tomb Raider will be the voices behind the other characters in the show and honestly, we can't wait for the show to premiere!
According to Bloody Disgusting, Harvey Fierstein (Torch Song) Mark Hamill (Knightfall, Star Wars) Ralph Ineson (Game of Thrones) Jason Isaacs (The OA) Keegan-Michael Key (Key and Peele) Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (True Detective) Simon Pegg (Mission Impossible) Andy Samberg (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) will be voicing the Mystics and Skeksis in the Netflix series. The release date of the show is out --mark your calendars for August 30th.
Director Louis Terrier, when asked about the show during a Comic-Con held in New York, revealed that the only CGI "The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance" will be using would be green-screening, in order to remove the puppeteers from the screen.
“We’re not using CGI on this one. It’s puppets, man. Puppets!” Louis told the crowd. "People have asked what the newest technology we’re bringing to this is, and I say, ‘Well it’s actually really old technology: green screen."
"We’re removing puppeteers where they are physically moving the puppets from the outside. But Jim didn’t have the ability to do that at the time of the movie. So even though that’s a really old visual effects technique, it’s an advance on the film. We were so pleased that it’s still pure puppetry because if you take the puppeteers out, they’re still moved by the puppeteers," he added. Netflix, along with The Jim Henson Company announced working together on a prequel last year.
As far as the plot of the series is concerned, Lisa Henson, the CEO and the president of the Jim Henson Company, revealed, "In the original movie, Jen and Kira stop at the Wall of Destiny and they see the ruins of what was once a beautiful Gefling culture, and we took that as a jumping off point for the whole series,” Henson teased.
“What was that culture, what was lost, what was that beautiful Gefling civilization? It’s very developed, with a big canvas with many different groups of Gelflings…it’s rich.” Will you be watching? Watch the trailer below!
