The wedding outfit received a lot of appreciation with many tagging their friends on social media claiming to pull the same prank at their nuptials.
Weddings are truly a special day not only for the bride and groom but also for all the family members involved. For most weddings, it is usually the bride who, sort of, decides what the maid of honor should wear, but in this case, Deanna Adams, 40, from Nebraska felt comfortable enough to ask her to wear anything she wanted.
Christina Meador, on the other hand, had other plans up her sleeves. The 38-year-old sister of the bride decided to make a special appearance at the wedding showing up in a giant T-rex costume. She took to Facebook recently, writing, "When you're the maid of honor and told you can wear anything you choose...I regret nothing." And as expected, the post went viral, with over 35,000 shares on Facebook, and it got enough appreciation on Reddit as well.
The wedding took place on August 10 and became a viral story with many complimenting the hilarious outfit, while others tagged their friends on social media claiming to pull the same prank at their nuptials.
"About a year ago my big sister texted me asking if I would be her maid of honor," she was quoted as saying by The Daily Mail. "I was trying to think of something that I would be willing to wear more than once and thought to myself, 'Well, she did say anything, and if I'm spending more than $50, I want it to be a dinosaur costume, because they're fantastic and I've always wanted one.' I sent her a text so that she could have a laugh - surprisingly she was ok with it!"
"I had yet to find my sister a good gift," Meador told the publication. "I had decided that she would appreciate the dinosaur costume and it would be fun to mess with her about wearing it during the ceremony. I arrived in Nebraska for the wedding, my sister picks me and my mom up from our hotel to go to a final dress fitting, and I bring it up on the ride that I had bought it and plan to wear it, and she laughed."
Meador added that although she would discuss these rather unconventional dresses with her sister before the wedding, including a Tardis from Doctor Who, it was, indeed, the giant dinosaur costume that 'stuck' with her.
"It was hot!" Meador said about the costume. "I remember being surprised that everyone seemed to be doing their best to avoid noticing the elephant in the room (or should I say dino) but it was hard to see in the costume. It's nice to see that most people get it, and the few who didn't were at least just showing concern for my sister's feelings (not knowing her or the situation)."
A maid-of-honour who was told she could "wear anything" to her sister's wedding has gone viral for showing up as a T-Rex! People have slammed her saying she upstaged the bride and made the big day all about her, what do you think? 🦖 👰 #9Today pic.twitter.com/uTZ7aOZqn8— The Today Show (@TheTodayShow) September 4, 2019
Although many people on social media were worried if the bridesmaid stole the thunder from the bride, Adams was very open-minded and said it was ultimately the marriage that matters the most to her.
"It's not a joke, it's a giant middle finger at spending thousands of dollars and putting ungodly amounts of pressure on ourselves just to please a bunch of people who, in the end, only want free food and drinks." She added, "The point was to get married to the man who treats me like I hung the moon, and we did that part. My sister is awesome and I genuinely was not kidding when I said she could wear whatever she wanted."
