Fans have been waiting for a fourth season for a long time.
I watch a lot of TV series and movies, but very few have come close to the artistic brilliance of Hannibal. After its 3 season run, the show was abruptly canceled leaving a lot of fans heartbroken. Now series star Mads Mikkelsen has teased that the show could return for a fourth season, reported Express. Previously, we had reported that all three seasons of Hannibal hit Netflix US on 5 June, and now Mikkelsen, who plays the role of the brilliant cannibalistic killer has given the fans of the show some new hope.
In an Instagram post, the 54-year-old posted a picture along with a caption that read, "Hannibal hits Netflix in June: Is Hannibal season 4 on the way?" While we know that this is far from being the real story and it might just be Mikkelsen hoping for a fourth season as well, but it also doesn't make sense to talk about a possible season 4 without any reason, isn't it? NBC's adaptation ran from 2013-2015 and it is based on Thomas Harris’ 1981 novel named Red Dragon.
Since its cancellation, fans have been campaigning for its resurrection and with Mikkelsen hinting about a fourth season, it has certainly raised our hopes. His Instagram picture has already sparked rumors that the show could return. Even show creator Bryan Fuller mentioned last year that 'no one had given up' on the fourth season.
He tweeted, saying, "No one has given up! I've made it clear I want to do it, the cast wants to do it and Martha wants to do it. We just need a network or a streaming service that wants to do it, too. I don't feel there's a clock on it or an expiration date for the idea. We just need someone to bite." In 2017, Fuller had reportedly pitched Hannibal season 4 to Hugh Dancy and Mads Mikkelsen with a "great" twist in the new episodes.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he said, "I have conversations with [Hannibal executive producer] Martha De Laurentiis. There are some hurdles to get through… [But] I just had a great idea for season 4. There’s an interesting next chapter in the relationship between Will Graham and Hannibal Lecter that would be fascinating to unpack. I’ve shared it with the gentlemen and they’re both keens on it."
In case you haven't watched this brilliant series, I suggest that you go for it right away. The synopsis of the show reads "Will Graham is a special consultant with the FBI. He has a special gift whereby he can empathize with any individual and put himself in their shoes. This means he gets to help solve vicious murders, especially those involving serial killers, as he can profile the murderer - their method, motives, and personality profile. For a particular case, the FBI also seeks the help of Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a highly-respected psychiatrist. Will and Hannibal hit it off, and Will becomes a patient of Hannibal. Little does he know or suspect that Hannibal might be the most wanted serial killer in the US."
