'Lucifer' Star Tom Ellis, Fiancée Meaghan Want Planned Parenthood Donations As Wedding Gift

The couple have been dating since 2015 and see it as a way of making a stand against the anti-abortion laws being passed in the US.

As Lucifer star Tom Ellis prepares to get married, he and his fiancee Meaghan have asked for a specific wedding present - donations to Planned Parenthood. It was earlier this month that Tom Ellis and Meaghan Oppenheimer responded to fans asking where to send them gifts for their wedding. They took to Twitter to let fans know they’d like nothing more than a donation to Planned Parenthood as their wedding gift, according to Metro.

Planned Parenthood is a medical service that provides reproductive health care including birth control, hormone therapy, cervical screenings and abortions across the United States. Tom Ellis and Meaghan Oppenheimer's decision gains significance in the recent anti-abortion laws that have been passed across the country.

The Georgia anti-abortion bill, the ‘heartbeat bill’ is considered one of the most restrictive in all of the United States. The bill that is yet to be enacted into law suggests that women will be charged for abortion after a fetal heartbeat is detected, which is often before a woman even knows she’s pregnant.

Many production houses including Netflix that streams Lucifer has threatened to stay away from shooting any of its projects in Georgia if the ‘heartbeat bill’ is passed into law.

Tom Ellis and Meaghan Oppenheimer went public with their engagement back in October last year. The duo hasn’t set a wedding date as of yet. Ellis and Meaghan Oppenheimer have been dating since 2015. This will the 40-year-old actor’s second marriage after divorcing Eastenders actress Tamzin Outhwaite after eight years together, in 2014. Tom Ellis had admitted to cheating on Tamzin Outhwaite. After Tom Ellis announced his engagement with Meaghan, Tamzin Outhwaite posted an image of a Keanu Reaves's quote on Instagram hitting out at the Lucifer star, “If you have been brutally broken but still have the courage to be gentle to other living beings, then you're a badass with a heart of an angel.'

Tamzin Outhwaite hinted that Tom Ellis's cheating wasn’t limited to a one-night stand. The Eastenders actor said, according to the Daily Mail, “I wouldn't not be with my husband over a one-night stand is all I'll say.” While Tamzin Outhwaite refused to reveal more, it's clear there was more than one mistake from Tom Ellis's side.

While Tom Ellis's filmography includes Miranda and Isn't It Romantic, it was his portrayal of Lucifer’s titular character that really put him in the spotlight and made him a fan favorite.

Lucifer nearly faced an abrupt end when Fox decided to pull the plug on the show after three seasons but Netflix has since then taken on the show for the fourth season. The episode count though has been cut down to 10, “I’m excited about the fact that we are 10 episodes now as opposed to 22, which means we can get right down to the storytelling, and every episode will count. From my point of view as an actor, that’s great." Netflix’s decision was also based on the fact that Lucifer also had an international audience.

Tom Ellis felt the creators had to retain the essence of the show without much experimentation, “One of the things that we have to be careful about as well is that the reason the show was so popular was because of the way it was. We don’t want to mess around too much with that."
