'Lucifer' Season 5 Is Officially Coming To Netflix This August, Here's All We Know

Our favorite devil is making coming back sooner than we thought.

It has been quite a long wait for the fans of Lucifer. And now finally, there is a confirmation from Netflix that the fifth season will be out this August, reported Screen Rant. This news was announced alongside a video that compiled the Prince of Darkness' most 'devilish moments'. The news was confirmed via Lucifer's official Twitter account and it reads, "And now, for your viewing enjoyment, we present 66.6 seconds of #lucifer's hottest, sexiest, most downright devilish moments. season 5 part 1 drops august 21 on @netflix."

The character of Lucifer Morningstar was created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Mike Dringenberg for DC Comics' Sandman series. Lucifer follows the story of the devil after he leaves his post in Hell to take up residence in Los Angeles and run the nightclub, Lux. Tom Ellis plays the titular role of Lucifer that debuted in Fox in 2016. But for some reason, the show was canceled by Fox after season 3. Luckily for the fans, it was picked up by Netflix for season 4 and 5.

The upcoming season 5 is believed to be the finale of the show, but with both the showrunners and Ellis signing on for a season 6, it is all but confirmed that Lucifer will at least come back for one more season. While there has been no official word from Netflix's end, we are somewhat certain that the Devil is not really done with his tricks just yet.

If you ask me, we can expect a lot from the fifth season of Lucifer. It was previously revealed that it will have a musical-themed episode. It was reported by Entertainment Weekly that the fourth episode of season 5 will indeed have two songs and have a 1940s noir vibe. Meanwhile, episode 10 titled 'Bloody Celestial Karaoke Jam' will be the big musical event that the fans have been so eagerly waiting for.

Showrunner Ildy Modrovich said, "We wanted to have a real grounded story reason why they're singing and dancing, and not just, 'Oh, this is going to be the one where everybody sings and dances'. It's been a little game of Tetris [planning the episode], but it's been super fun. It's going to be amazing. It's going to be just such a bucket list thing for me.

Apart from this, there has also been a certain bit of speculation around the show, but one particular notion was cleared by the producers themselves. A story circulated that Ian Somerhalder might be replacing Tom Ellis but Ildy literally laughed it off. Ellis has played the role of the Devil for the last four seasons and is set to reprise the role in a fifth soon. Personally, I think he is the perfect fit and no one should replace him.

Keeping aside all the plot threads, Lucifer's cameo appearance in the Crisis on Infinite Earths needs to be addressed. The appearance showed that Lucifer is still running Lux. It can be possible that the events took place before season 4, but the good news is that it has confirmed its existence in Arrowverse. Regardless, there is no denying that the anticipation of Lucifer season 5 has gained major momentum and with Netflix confirming a release date, fans should expect to see the trailer next month or so.
