Leonardo DiCaprio's Foundation Donates $3 Million For The Australia Wildfire Relief

Earth Alliance said that it has started the Australia Wildfire Fund in order to help with an "international response to the catastrophic bushfires" that is wreaking havoc in the country.

Ever since Australia has been burning, a lot of celebrities have come forward to donate for the relief efforts. The devastating fires still continue to consume a large part of the country that has already costed the lives of over a billion animals and 25 individuals, with many still reportedly missing. The hot and drought-like conditions of the continent along with record high temperatures are the reasons behind the devastating fires. And of course, humans as well.

As reported by CBS News, Leonardo DiCaprio's Earth Alliance, his environmental organization, has pledged to donate $3 million to help wildfire relief efforts in Australia. On Thursday, the foundation said that it has started the Australia Wildfire Fund in order to help with an "international response to the catastrophic bushfires" that is wreaking havoc in the country.

The wildfires have already burned down the area twice the size of Maryland and destroyed 2,000 homes. This year has also been the driest and hottest on record, and the fires have been raging since the month of September. DiCaprio serves as Earth Alliance's co-chair along with philanthropists Laurene Powell Jobs and Brian Sheth and it was launched last year to fight against climate change and restoring biodiversity.

The funding will work alongside partner organizations including Aussie Ark, Bush Heritage, and Wires Wildlife Rescue. But DiCaprio is not the only celebrity to donate such a large sum, Elton John has also pledged $1 million recently while wrapping up his show in Sydney. Chris Hemsworth had recently shared a video urging people to support the relief efforts with whatever they can and also made a pledge to donate $1 million as well. Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have also donated for the Australian bushfires.

Metallica has also gone on record saying they will donate $750,000 to a firefighting agency and emergency services agency in Victoria. Along with them, Phoebe Waller-Bridge said she would auction off her Globe outfit and have the proceeds go to firefighter relief at the Golden Globes on Sunday.
