One of the most anticipated movies of 2019, 'Us' is releasing this March 22. Mark your calendars, right now.
SXSW Conference and Festival this year opened up with Academy Award Winning director Jordan Peele's 'Us' and the movie had an amazing response and has crept people to the core reports CNN Entertainment! The psychological horror thriller is a follow-up to Peele's 2017 gem Get Out and is one of the most anticipated movies of the year. Starring Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke, Elisabeth Moss, Tim Heidecker, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Anna Diop, the movie bagged cheers from everyone who was present at the premiere, and Jordan Peele's amazing directing skills were praised again.
"What if I just showed four episodes of 'This Is Us?'" Peele joked before the screening. "This movie is about a lot of things... and, well, enjoy." The plot of the movie revolves around a family of four who go on a vacation but accidentally run into their terrifying doppelgängers. The trailer of the movie which was dropped last year gave us a glimpse of the terror Us will unfold, and we cannot wait for the movie to release in theatres.
The trailer opens up with a family driving to their beach house while The Luniz's song I Got Five On It blasts through the speakers. They run into a blood-soaked man on the beach, carrying a pair of scissors and when the family heads to their house, the family is startled to see some people standing near their house who they think are neighbors but they soon realize it's not anyone else but them. "They look like us. They think like us… and they won’t stop until they kill us, or we kill them." The trailer will give you goosebumps!
Talking about the movie, Jordan said, "One thing I know is that this is the genre; and playing around with the thriller, horror, action, fun genre of intrigue is my favorite. That’s my sweet spot. So I think tonally it should resemble Get Out. That said, I want to make a completely different movie. I want to address something different than race in the next one," he told The Hollywood Reporter.
"What do I do next? How do I top [Get Out]? And you know, and I think it’s important to focus on stories that are true to me. I go, when writing Get Out, my sort of mantra is or was, 'Let’s write my favorite film I haven’t seen yet.' So I think it’s easy to get sort of bogged down in 'how does this compare to the first one, how does that compare?' When all is said and done, my next film, I am currently writing it and I’ll direct for Universal this year, I’m just trying to entertain myself again," he added.
Eric Kohn, IndieWire's chief critic, took to his Twitter to praise the movie, "It should surprise no one that US is a very satisfying (and anxiety-inducing) follow up to GET OUT. What’s more fascinating: that a high-concept FUNNY GAMES/Hitchcock/Cronenberg/Bradbury mashup could feel so fresh at the same time. #sxsw." Given the genius of Peele and the immense success of his debut film, we are pretty sure Us is going to be another hit!
Peele told The Hollywood Reporter, this movie is "not about race" but "about something I feel has become an undeniable truth, and that is a simple fact that we are our own worst enemies... I dedicated a lot of myself to create new horror mythology, and a new monster." Peele also spoke about the movie at the film festival and said, "We are at a time where we fear 'the other.' I wanted to suggest that the monster has our face, maybe the evil is us."
The film will release on March 22. Who's excited for Us? Watch the trailer below!
