IKEA Recreates Iconic TV Living Rooms From 'Friends', 'The Simpsons', And 'Stranger Things'

The ad campaign team spent months going through their product lists to find the closest replacements for each of the living rooms. They also used 3D software in the designs.

Monica and Rachel’s apartment from Friends has always been something that's really close to our hearts and if you’ve wanted to live in an apartment like that, you can now recreate the entire living space in your own home thanks to IKEA, reports People.

IKEA, a Swedish multinational group that designs and sells ready-to-assemble furniture has now helped recreate some of your favorite living rooms from pop culture in an ad campaign that’s going viral. Iconic living rooms from TV shows like Friends, The Simpsons, and Stranger Things have all been re-created using just products from IKEA.

The products from the United Arab Emirates-based campaign titled “Real-life series” will be on show at select IKEA stores in the Middle East and also on some versions of the home goods stores’ catalogs, as per a report by Ad Week. The ad campaign has the tagline “For real families”.

While the show doesn’t use the names of the shows the similarity is hard to miss and does evoke a sense of nostalgia and belonging.

By assembling its products to recreate the iconic living rooms, IKEA has done all the work for its customers and made it convenient without having to go to all the trouble of finding the right products. IKEA has also price tagged each item so you can work out your budget and then decide on the things you want.

While the recreated living room from the ad campaigns and the actual living rooms from TV shows are mostly similar there are a few differences in the spaces. In the Friends apartment, a vintage car poster replaces the French “Jouets” framed-print and there are also some minor changes to some of the decor like lamps, plants and pillows differ but on the whole, the living rooms are instantly recognizable. It’s the arrangement of the couch and the purple wall color that really strikes you as being very familiar.

IKEA went for cartoon-feel furniture choices for the Simpsons living room with very bright colored objects including the green phone and purple side table. The walls are also painted pink to recreate the feel.  IKEA even has the askew picture frame of a ship above the couch on point. They’ve even kept the green floor.

IKEA recreates Will Byer’s living room from Stranger Things pretty faithfully and has the complete set including the Christmas lights and colored pencils. Will Byer’s character uses the Christmas light to communicate with his mother played by Winona Ryder.

The ad campaign team spent months going through their product lists to find the closest replacements for each of the living rooms. They also used 3D software in the designs. “The Ikea team worked closely with the creatives for months. They went through hundreds of items to find the perfect pieces that would bring those iconic rooms,” said Vinod Jayan, the managing director for IKEA in the UAE, Qatar, Egypt, and Oman. “It was a great collaborative effort that led up to a stunning result."

Jayan felt the living rooms are “a true testament of what IKEA represents: a place where everyone can bring whatever idea they see or have, to life.”
