Christmas Classic 'Home Alone' Is Getting A Reboot And Filming Starts In February

The 1990 classic Christmas movie is getting a reboot that with a new plot and characters and will stream on Disney+ later next year.

Christmas feels incomplete if you don't watch Home Alone at least once. Now, in addition to the original 1990 film, you will soon be getting another Home Alone film. That's right our favorite Christmas movie is now getting a reboot! The filming is set to start filming in February of next year and is likely to be directed by Dan Mazer and is being co-written by Mikey Day and Streeter Seidel.

This announcement came from Disney CEO Bob Iger who said, "We’re also focused on leveraging Fox’s vast library of great titles to further enrich the content mix on our [direct to consumer] platforms." The reboot will be available on the new streaming platform, Disney+ that was launched earlier in November. Disney+ is also considering reboots of other Fox Studios movies like Night at the Museum, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and Cheaper by the Dozen

The original Home Alone film is a story about an eight-year-old Kevin McCallister who gets left behind by his family while going away on a vacation to Paris for Christmas. The unsupervised kid then fends off two burglars who try to rob his house. The film franchise currently has five parts each with a different version of Kevin's (or in the case of the fifth installment, Finn Baxter's)  adventures fighting off burglars.

The announcement of the reboot met with a lot of mixed reactions. Most of the criticisms had to do with how it would not be possible for a kid to be left behind in the current age of technology and connectivity. Macaulay Culkin, who plays Kevin McCallister in the original Home Alone, also contributed to the discussion by posting what an updated Home Alone would look like on his Twitter.

Thankfully, the reboot does not replicate the original film and has a completely different premise. According to the Observer, the reboot follows a husband and wife who go to war with a young boy, Max, who has been stolen from them. Max is being characterized as a witty, energetic none-year-old, who is mischievous and is wise beyond his years. He is also said to have a personality to easily converse with adults but also push their buttons at the same time. Just like Kevin, he is kind-hearted and innocent. They are currently on a lookout for a big name to play the female lead.

The reboot is expected to be released just in time for Christmas 2020. All we can do is wait to see if we should keep the change, ya filthy animal.
