Helena Bonham Carter Finally Moves On After Tim Burton Split: 'You Get Bored Of Grieving'

"You break up, you grieve, you get bored of grieving, and then you finally move on. I’m very happy with someone else. It’s been a bit of unexpected magic in my life,” said Helena.

Helena Bonham Carter recently revealed that she has happily moved on after her split with Tim Burton, ending their 13 years of relationship. It has been around 5 years since they have split and Bonham seems to be just better than fine.

The former couple has two children named Billy, 16 and Nell, 11, and lived in London where their homes were famously linked with one another.

In a conversation with UK Harper’s Bazaar for the December cover, the actress said, "You break up, you grieve, you get bored of grieving, and then you finally move on. I’m very happy with someone else. It’s been a bit of unexpected magic in my life.”

Carter, 53, and Burton, 61, had an amicable separation earlier this year and have continued to be friends and co-parent their children. Carter's representative told PEOPLE, "We would ask that you respect their privacy and that of their children during this time.”

The pair who never ended up getting married to each other, first met when Tim Burton directed Carter, in 2001’s Planet of the Apes. Since then, they have never looked back and have come together to give several blockbusters like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Alice in Wonderland and Dark Shadows.

Back in 2015, when Carter gave an interview to Harper’s Bazaar, she spoke about her break up and admitted that even though the split between them was amicable, the separation had a very deep impact on her.

She said, "You go through massive grief – it is a death of a relationship, so it's utterly bewildering. Your identity, everything, changes."

The actress also revealed that after her break up, she gave a thought about sticking a tape across her forehead that reads 'handle with care' after her breakup in order to warn people that basically sends a message saying "I’m not myself at the moment, so be careful.”

She added, "There’s a great quote I’ve stuck next to the kettle. It’s from [Alice Through the Looking Glass]: ‘I can’t explain myself because I’m not myself. Everyone always says you have to be strong and have a stiff upper lip, but its okay to be fragile.”

In another conversation with The Times UK, the actress quipped, "It's very sensible -- and luckily I've kept both houses now. He was very generous. The double house is not really two houses, it's two small houses that have been put together. I did not have room to house children, put it that way. I lived in a cottage. And I did always think, "God, wouldn't it be ideal if Mister Right lived next door because then I'd have room to put the bedrooms in?" So what was Tim's house is basically the family house and I kept my bedroom and my kitchen."

She continued, "But even then it feels like I'm an alien person because I live next door to my children, which is really none of anyone's ...The more mystique the better. It's a really magical place, everyone gets lost."

Before their Split, Helena and Tim have always stayed on good terms and equally split custody of their children when their schedules allow it. Helena also added saying that it's her priority to remain respectful about her ex in front of her children. In terms of her career, the actress is currently getting ready for the release of The Crown's third series, which will see her play the role of Princess Margaret.
