If 'Grey's Anatomy' is ever to continue beyond Season 17, the decision will solely depend on Ellen Pompeo and Shonda Rhimes. Here's a little suggestion -- KEEP IT COMING!
This year has been special for 'Grey's Anatomy' fans. The ABC show broke a major television record becoming the longest-running medical drama of all time, surpassing the number of episodes produced. And the record as you may have guessed was previously held by "ER."
And that's not all. It gets better. Grey's Anatomy has been renewed for two more seasons and we can't contain our excitement! And it looks like the doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital are returning for more shifts. As reported by CNN.
With the show breaking records, the chances of renewal were always on the cards. ABC has not only renewed "Grey's Anatomy" for Season 16 and Season 17 but the network has also renewed shows from the Shondaland banner, "Station 19" and "How to Get Away with Murder," which will enter their third and sixth seasons, respectively.
“Everyone at Shondaland is thrilled that our fans’ commitment to TGIT continues,” Shonda Rhimes and producing partner Betsy Beers said in a joint statement. “We are so proud of Krista and (HTGAWM’s) Pete (Nowalk) and the work they do. Making the choice to have Krista oversee Station 19 was easy — the creativity she brings to the Grey’s Anatomy universe continues a tradition of storytelling we hold dear.”
The series created by Shonda Rhimes will run till its 17th season and although we are not sure if that will be the last season but one can never say! But Rhimes had moved to Netflix in 2017 and when she was asked to comment on the future of the show, she revealed that it all depended on Pompeo. And that makes sense, considering you can't have Grey's Anatomy without Grey, right? Hence, if the show is ever to continue beyond Season 17, the decision will solely depend on Ellen Pompeo and Shonda Rhimes. Here's a little suggestion -- KEEP IT COMING!
"Grey's Anatomy" Season 15 recently aired its penultimate episode on May 9 and fans are getting a tad bit emotional -- especially with the way things are panning out at the end. Now, we won't spoil it for you but the finale episode will definitely take you on an emotional rollercoaster ride.
Ever since the news of the renewal was made public, fans have taken to social media to share their excitement! "The writing of @GreysABC is so good because within the span of 30 minutes you’ll experience 5 emotions and this happens almost every episode," a Twitter user said. Meanwhile, another added: "Only 2 more? Give Greys Anatomy 5 more seasons! With Station 19 riding the wave, 5 more seasons is a drop in the ocean!"

The medical drama stars Pompeo as Meredith Grey, Justin Chambers as Alex Karev, Chandra Wilson as Miranda Bailey, James Pickens Jr. as Richard Webber, Kevin McKidd as Owen Hunt, Jesse Williams as Jackson Avery, Caterina Scorsone as Amelia Shepherd, Camilla Luddington as Jo Wilson, Kelly McCreary as Maggie Pierce and Giacomo Gianniotti as Andrew DeLuca.
With 'Grey's Anatomy' getting renewed, we can't wait to see what's in store this time. But one thing is certain -- it's going to be bigger, better and all the more awesome!
