The Odessa Police Department in Texas shared some adorable pictures of Chico with his paws on their desk.
A dog in Texas surprised the Odessa Police Department when he walked into the precinct and placed his hands on the counter to 'report himself missing'. Yes, you read that right and now, you can also stop calling your dog an idiot, because they are clearly, super intelligent. According to reports, Sergeant Rusty Martin was one of the first officers to meet Chico, the German Shepherd mix who lost his way back home.
Since the dog had no ID attached or had a tag or a collar, the police couldn't find his human. The police also immediately checked if the dog was microchipped but before they arrived, the dog crept out of the police station unnoticed. Perhaps, Chico thought about joining the K-9 unit for a little while but then felt 'nah'. The Police Department took to Instagram and wrote, "So...this happy guy randomly strolled into the front desk of the police department last night."
It continued, "We're thinking he wanted to apply for the K-9 position after eliminating a Lassie-type situation. He was given lots of love and attention until he decided it was time for him to leave. He let himself and after an exhaustive search, he was not found. We were relieved to learn he safely returned to his owner. Chico is welcome back anytime!" In an interview with Bored Panda, Martin said, "We were all excited to have him in the building."
He continued, "We had a tennis ball and threw it in the lobby for a bit. Everyone loved him.” After playtime was over, the police officers were determined to take him back to his owner but Chico had some plans of his own. Martin said, "He ran out just as quickly as he came in. The owner responded the next day [to say that] it was his dog and he had returned home. He lives about a mile from the station.”
His owner, Edward Alvarado said that when he woke up, his beloved Chico was sitting outside and now he plans on taking his keen explorer on trips around the world since it seems that the canine doesn't plan on staying put. Since Chico made an attempt of reporting himself missing, he has become popular on social media. The post by the police department quickly went viral with people commenting on how absolutely adorable Chico is.
One person wrote, "Maybe he wasn't lost! He wanted to file a missing person report." Another one added, "I think Chico was definitely applying for a job. Look how sharp he is looking! Very impressive." A third one quipped, "OMG! How cute is this? I am sure the officers loved this! What a handsome applicant...I'll hire him."
