Disney Is Considering A Live-Action Remake Of 'Tarzan' With Ryan Reynolds: Report

The 'Tarzan' live-action remake is still rumored to be at its early stages of development at Disney, and we might have Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds play the iconic role.

Yes, we just had Aladdin and The Lion King live-action remakes this year, and many took quite a while to get over the awe of 'Beauty and the Beast' and 'Jungle Book'. These Disney live-action remakes of the classics are seriously taking the beloved children's fantasy tales that all of us adore to new levels.

The 'Tarzan' project, however, is still rumored to be at its early stages of development at Disney. According to We Got This Covered, after taking a good look at the Hollywood talent pool, Disney is eyeing Ryan Reynolds to play the titular protagonist.

The story of Tarzan was created by Edgar Rice Burroughs in 1912. It is technically not an original Disney tale by any means, but if it were, people would not be able to tell the difference. Everything about Tarzan has Disney written all over it.

Needless to say, Disney made an animated 'Tarzan' movie in 1999 and was the first animated major motion picture version of the story. The film was made on a budget of $130 million (which was the most expensive animated film ever made at the time) and went on to gross up to $450 million worldwide. 'Tarzan' (1999) also won an Academy Award for Best Original Song  ("You'll Be in my heart" by Phil Collins).

And now, We Got This Covered reports that Disney is planning a live-action of 'Tarzan', so we can definitely hope for something truly epic to come. So far, we don't even know if the studio has even reached out to the Deadpool star, or if even Reynolds is aware of Disney's interest.

Either way, we look forward to hearing more about this really soon, as both parties will most likely withhold any information before an official announcement. But we got this information from the source which confirmed the Aladdin sequel, and they were spot on about that, so it's safe to assume that this 'rumor' might be true as well.

Since Disney's remake of 'Alice in Wonderland' (2010), their live-action remakes have collectively grossed over $8 billion globally. So there is definitely more to come from Disney in the future as they are unlikely to stop this trend of remaking their classics into live-action films.

After the disappointing box office showing and critical review of 'The Legend of Tarzan' (2016), Disney has no doubt decided to take the tale of the feral child into their own hands. With a much bigger budget, a diverse cast that may include Ryan Reynolds, you can bet that we are pretty excited for this movie to pop out.
