From Poltergeist to The Exorcist, a number of Hollywood movies are said to have curses attached to them and this docuseries explores the myths behind it.
Horror is truly one of the most entertaining genres in films. Over the years, a lot of horror movies are said to have curses attached to them, as the production team of these movies believe that their sets were targets of supernatural forces. One of the most infamous rumor that has been going on for years now is regarding the skeletons that were used while filming Poltergeist. Myths suggest that those skeletons were real and imported from India, and as a result, there was a curse on the entire project. Poltergeist is one of the most talked about horror movies till date. The horrific death of child actress Heather O'Rourke and 22-year-old star Dominique Dunne had made it worse for the haunted reputation of the movie.
The latest new docuseries from Shudder titled Cursed Films delves deep into these myths and legends surrounding the so-called cursed horror movies. It deals with the stories behind five big screen movies like Poltergeist, The Exorcist, The Omen, The Crow, and Twilight Zone: The Movie. People who were interviewed for the docuseries include Richard Donner, director of The Omen, Linda Blair from The Exorcist, Kane Hodder, Michael Berryman, Lloyd Kaufman, who is the co-founder of Troma Entertainmen, Poltergeist III director Gary Sherman, and Blumhouse executive and Shock Waves podcast co-host Ryan Turek.
The first season will have five episodes and each will be 30 minutes long. Every single episode will deal with one movie that millions have perceived to be cursed and it will comb through the legends and myths surrounding the movies that have been passed from one person to another over the years. All these movies were filmed and released before the era of internet and because of this, the fascination of the audience with these movies has not diminished one bit.
Shudder will premiere the docuseries on The Exorcist on April 2, The Poltergeist and The Omen on April 9, The Crow and Twilight Zone: The Movie will release on April 16. Cursed Films will be released in the US, Canada, U.K. and Ireland. The episodes related to Poltergeist and The Omen will also be screened at SXSW, and will be followed by an Q&A session with the director Jay Cheel.
