Horror Classic 'Bride Of Frankenstein' Is Reportedly Getting A Reboot With Angelina Jolie

According to reports, John Krasinski has been approached to bring the skunk-haired creature on screen for the reboot.

Even though there have been no movements on Bride of Frankenstein reboot for quite some time, there's a new update now. Angelina Jolie's movie is said to be still in the works at Universal Studio, reported Variety. The actress has been attached to the project for quite a while now, and the studio is still working on the project.

Although nothing has been confirmed, the report revealed that producer Amy Pascal and John Krasinski 'have been quietly exploring' ways to reimagining the work. The original movie debuted in 1935 and it starred Boris Karloff as Frankenstein's monster, Colin Clive as Henry Frankenstein and Elsa Lanchester as the titular Frankenstein's Bride. The movie followed the events that take place directly after 1931 classic Frankenstein, and actors Clive and Karloff reprised their roles. Many consider the Bride of Frankenstein to be one of the greatest sequels of all time and some even go to the extent to say that the sequel is better than the original.

Not only was the original 1935 movie a hit at the box office, but it also earned more than twice its budget, and in the later years, the movie is still remembered for its cultural significance. In 1998, the movie was selected for preservation in the Library of Congress' National Film Registry and it was also deemed to be 'culturally, historically or aesthetically significant.'

Universal Studios did try several times to reboot the movie, but none of their attempts were successful. The first time, the studio brought writers Robert Pulcini and Shari Springer Berman to write a Bride of Frankenstein remake a decade ago. Then, a few years later, Neil Burger was hired to direct, along with producer Brian Grazer overseeing the remake. Until 2014, there was no update about the movie. In 2015, it was announced that David Koepp of Jurassic Park fame was attached to write the script. But nothing materialized.

Again, in 2017, it was announced that a Bride of Frankenstein reboot would be part of Universal's Dark-Universe horror franchise. Jolie was supposed to play the titular character with Javier Bardem as Frankenstein's monster, with Bill Condon, set to direct. But now, the reports suggest that a reboot is being taken forward by the studio to create a much edgier and cost-effective movie and it could mean Bride of Frankenstein may be happening sooner than you think.
