Band-Aid Is Adding New Line Of Bandages That Embrace The Beauty Of Diverse Skin

The brand that has been around since 1920 also stated that they would be donating to the Black Lives Matter movement

In the wake of George Floyd's death, and nationwide protests, Band-Aid, the 100-year-old company is taking a stand against racism. The brand announced via an Instagram post, that they were introducing a new line of bandages in a variety of shades. They said, We stand in solidarity with our Black colleagues, collaborators and community in the fight against racism, violence and injustice. We are committed to taking actions to create tangible change for the Black community. We are committed to launching a range of bandages in light, medium and deep shades of Brown and Black skin tones that embrace the beauty of diverse skin.

In addition, the company stated that they would financially support the Black Lives Matter cause in full earnest. We will be making a donation to @blklivesmatter.⁣ We promise that this is just the first among many steps together in the fight against systemic racism, the post read. Scary Mommy reports that while the brand's move was acknowledged, others pointed out that it was about time that the brand recognized that we come in all shades. Some astutely noted that Browndages, a black-owned company, had already been catering to people of color, and encouraged others to buy from them. TruColor is another company that has been inclusive in their skin tones as well. Twitter user Joanna/blm said, honestly same im pale as fuck lmao. but im really glad my black peers are getting the opportunity to have something that blends into their skin more. it's always rubbed me the wrong way that the word "nude" is always used to describe things that match white people's skintones. Thao Nyugen added:this is actually good tbh band-aids look awkward on people with darker skin. Atira Lyons tweeted, Mannnn bandaid can go to hell. I grew up my whole life think that’s just the color they make them. They could been did this!

Band-Aid has come out with several different bandage designs over the years. They have specifically catered to kids with products that include Hello Kitty, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Star Wars to name a few, but never ventured into the racial diversity pond, until now. However, they had previously supported social causes such as the red bandage for AIDS research.

Band-Aid concluded their post that they were dedicated to inclusivity and providing the best healing solutions, better represent you.⁣ We can, we must and we will do better.
