The slasher themed season 9 of AHS will reportedly have Sarah Paulson and Emma Roberts, but fan favourite Evan Peters is sitting this one out.
In case you have been living under a rock, Ryan Murphy recently revealed the theme of the upcoming season of American Horror Story and it sort of broke the internet. "What is it?" After touring the Murder House, showing us the horrors of Asylum, bitchcraft in Coven, the dark side of Freak Show, vampires and serial killers in Hotel, blood and gore in Roanoke, political agendas in Cult and surviving the Apocalypse, Murphy's longest running anthology show is now going back to classic horror roots! American Horror Story: 1984 season 9 is all about slashers and we are beyond thrilled!
"AHS SEASON 9 is called..." Ryan teased in the caption along with the small trailer he shared on his Instagram. In the teaser, a woman can be seen running, screaming away from a killer with a machete, classic Friday the 13th. The slasher in the teaser, however, appears to be a woman as well and we are ALL for a female slasher villain! But, who could it be? As of now, only two people have been confirmed by Murphy as the cast for season 9.
"Who?" Emma Roberts and American-British freestyle skier Gus Kenworthy. "That special moment when you realize you have an Olympic medal AND will be playing Emma Roberts’ boyfriend on “American Horror Story” Season 9," Murphy wrote along with a shirtless picture of Gus assuring fans that Emma Roberts is coming back to the show and Gus is playing her boo. But, reportedly, Sarah is coming back, too!
Sarah Paulson, who is pretty much the backbone of the show and has played some of the most iconic characters in American Horror Story, has admitted on several occasions that she is not willing to leave the show anytime soon. "I have found a home in the sense that I work for a person who sees me completely, knows my strengths and weaknesses, knows how to push me and keeps throwing me the ball," Paulson spoke about continuing to work with Murphy. "Why would you leave something that works?"
"This idea of jumping off one thing just to be available in case something great comes by, that’s like leaving your wonderful mate because you think maybe someone more interesting is out there," she added. But, does she know who else is returning? Recently SYFYgot hold of Paulson and asked her if she had any details for us but sadly, she doesn't. "I don't really know the answer to that. I think... all I can say is I know the least about this season upcoming that I've known about any season. I don't even know...yeah, that's all I can say. Usually, I have more information at this point, and I'm bugging Ryan with questions. Right now, I don't have a lot and yeah, I'm so busy with Ratched, it's hard for me to think about anything beyond that."
While Sarah's return is not surprising it surely is comforting considering the fact that Evan Peters, the AHS regular we all love, has announced that he will NOT be returning for season 9. In an interview with GQ, Peters said that he wasn't feeling up to doing another American Horror Story season when asked about the strong characters he has played so far in the franchise, "Yeah, I'm not doing it anymore. I just made a decision. I said to myself, "I can't do it anymore." It's not me. It's not who I am! I'm goofy, I'm silly, I like to have fun. I don't like to yell and scream. I actually hate it."
"I think it's disgusting and really awful, and it's been a challenge for me. Horror Story sort of demanded that of me...It's hurting my soul and Evan as a person. There's this massive amount of rage that's been called upon from me, and the emotional stuff that's been called on me for Pose has been heartbreaking, and I'm sick. I don't feel good," Peters added revealing how much the show is impacting him in real life.
"It's just exhausting. It's really mentally draining, and you don't want to go to those places ever in your life. And so you have to go there for the scenes, and it ends up integrating it somehow into your life. You're in traffic and you find yourself screaming and you're like, What the hell? This isn't who I am. I fight really hard to combat that and make sure that I'm watching comedies and hanging out with my fiancée and chilling with friends and watching movies." Considering how the season has a slasher theme, it is going to have a lot of blood and gore, which explains why Peters decided to sit this one out.
