In a recent interview, the producer of the horror anthology spilled some beans about the upcoming season and we can't wait!
It is HAPPENING! The antichrist wasn't enough to stop the magic Ryan Murphy created eight years ago and just when people thought Apocalypse would be the end of it all, American Horror Story was renewed for another season and with WHAT THEME. After exploring Murder House, witnessing the horrors of Asylum, learning witchcraft in Coven, laughing and crying over Freak Show, watching Gaga slit throats in Hotel, finding lost colonies in Roanoke, crushing over Evan Peter's blue hair in Cult, and seeing the best of both worlds - a Murder House - Coven crossover in Apocalypse, Murphy is making sure season 9 is the best season of AHS yet.
"How?" Murphy has revealed that the ninth season of the horror anthology we all love will have a SLASHER theme and PURE horror. In fact, he also dropped the first teaser of the show and it looked so so so much like Friday the 13th that it had fans of horror scream with excitement. AHS SEASON 9 is called..." Ryan teased in the caption along with the small trailer he shared on his Instagram. The trailer opens up with a woman running for her life, screaming, in the woods while a killer, who looks a lot like sack-Jason, can be seen following her with a machete. Yes. YES. SO MUCH YES.
While Ryan has kept his silence after the teaser, Tim Minear, the show's producer, has opened up about season 9 and spilled some details about the plot. “I will tell you nothing, except that I think it’s awesome,” Minear told TheWrap. “I think it’s gonna be really scary but a lot of fun, like it always is. And that if you have a taste for ’80s horror, you’re in for a treat.” You hear that? That means the show will follow themes of iconic slasher movies like Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Halloween.
As far as the cast is concerned, Emma and American-British freestyle skier Gus Kenworthy are the only ones who have been confirmed by Murphy to return for the upcoming season. "That special moment when you realize you have an Olympic medal AND will be playing Emma Roberts’ boyfriend on “American Horror Story” Season 9," Murphy wrote along with a shirtless picture of Gus assuring fans that Emma Roberts is coming back to the show and Gus is playing her boo.
However, fan favorite Evan Peters has revealed that he will not be returning to American Horror Story, at least for this season. In an interview with GQ, Peters said that he wasn't feeling up to doing another American Horror Story season when asked about the strong characters he has played so far in the franchise, "Yeah, I'm not doing it anymore. I just made a decision. I said to myself, "I can't do it anymore." It's not me. It's not who I am! I'm goofy, I'm silly, I like to have fun. I don't like to yell and scream. I actually hate it."
"I think it's disgusting and really awful, and it's been a challenge for me. Horror Story sort of demanded that of me...It's hurting my soul and Evan as a person. There's this massive amount of rage that's been called upon from me, and the emotional stuff that's been called on me for Pose has been heartbreaking, and I'm sick. I don't feel good," Peters added revealing how much the show is impacting him in real life.
In fact, even Sarah Paulson, who has played parts in all the seasons so far, has revealed that she is not sure about her part. "I don't really know the answer to that. I think... all I can say is I know the least about this season upcoming that I've known about any season. I don't even know...yeah, that's all I can say. Usually, I have more information at this point, and I'm bugging Ryan with questions. Right now, I don't have a lot and yeah, I'm so busy with Ratched, it's hard for me to think about anything beyond that," Paulson told SYFY. A season without Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson? Will you be watching it?
