Preemies of the Carolinas teamed up with NICUs across South and North Carolina to help premature babies and their families celebrate Halloween in the cutest way possible.
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) can be a rather dark and dreary place. After all, many babies are clinging on for dear life and there is no dearth of worried parents abound. However, in order to bring a little joy and happiness into NICUs, nurses and other members of hospital staff usually have a couple of tricks up their uniform sleeves. Around Halloween, things can get a little spooky - in a good way! As a nod to the spooky holiday, some hospitals have chosen to dress up their NICU babies in the most adorable costumes. And they're going viral.
With custom-made Halloween costumes, even the tiniest of trick-or-treaters can have a little fun (and bring a smile to their parents' faces as well). For the NICU at Spartanburg Regional, this was their second year celebrating the holiday. They uploaded photos of their NICU babies dressed up to social media platform Facebook and wrote, "The NICU stay is never easy for the families, but it is our hope that this was a bright spot in their day! Our handmade costume donations from Edie and her group from Preemies of the Carolina." The babies were dressed up as M&Ms, pumpkins, and bees, among other several genius and adorable costumes. Those in the NICU at Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital, for instance, were given cute costumes, also donated by Preemies of the Carolinas.
Preemies of the Carolinas is an organization dedicated to helping premature babies admitted to Neonatal Intensive Care Units in hospitals across North and South Carolina. They were established in 2015 and currently provide children with homemade essentials, such as clothing, including inspirational hearts, hats, and blankets. Their volunteers put together homemade clothing and care packages and deliver them to eight NICU between the two states. After dressing up their precious NICU babies this for Halloween this year, they posted on Facebook, "Our preemies and NICU babies were in style at our Spartanburg Regional NICU. True miracles celebrating their first Halloween!"
Needless to say, users were loving it! One user wrote, "Absolutely precious in every way possible. All of our good thoughts to the parents of these little cuties. Holidays in hospitals can be stressful beyond belief. I had a child who lived in and out of one for her first five years of life. You have no idea how much even just one kind act can help brighten a day. A huge thank you to this NICU for giving these families something so beautiful. I hope every last one of you gets to go home real soon. Keep fighting the good fight little ones, you can do it!" And they couldn't be more right. Preemies of the Carolinas and NICUS across the states are undoubtedly making an important positive impact on these cute youngins and their loving families.
